Michigan Functional and Integrative Medicine is owned and operated by Dr. Juzer Husaini.
Born and raised in the beautiful state of Michigan, he began his journey into medicine by taking the non-traditional “scenic” route before starting medical school. He graduated from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University with an undergraduate degree in marketing and went to work in the world of Corporate America soon after.
A few years later, he realized however that his passion lay elsewhere. Being surrounded by physicians in his family helped him realize he had the opportunity to do so much more to benefit and impact the lives of others. He soon came across Osteopathic Medicine and fell in love with its philosophy of taking a holistic and integrative approach to patient care.
He graduated from Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine and soon after moved to Nashville, Tennessee to begin his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
During his time as house staff in Internal Medicine and PM&R, he witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of chronic disease; not only on individual patients themselves but also the toll it took on their families. Chronic disease not only affected the people it infected, but also the health care system itself.
He often wished and wondered would things have been different for these patients if he had met them sooner. Could he have helped them change their course and live a fuller and healthier life by providing the proper guidance and education?
Unfortunately he started to notice unhealthy changes to his own well-being during his time as a resident. He had become over-stressed, 30+ pounds over-weight, sleep deprived and made poor decisions in regards to nutrition and exercise because of those factors. He realized he needed to do a better job of taking care of himself if he were to be charged with the care of others. As it stood however, he was not setting a good example for those he was trying to help and stumbling down the path of chronic disease himself.
Around this time he started learning more about the principles of Integrative Medicine and the Mind, Body, Soul connection. He was able to use this information to transform his life and health, which became a complete game-changer for him. During this period of exploration and discovery he began to feel and look as good as he had since his days as a high school athlete! This truly preventive approach to wellness was a welcome revelation and he knew that he had found his true calling and passion in medicine.
In 2019 he opened his own, independent practice in Franklin, TN – Nashville Osteopathic and Integrative Medicine. He is a Certified Practitioner with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFMCP) and a Fellowship Graduate in Integrative Medicine with the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM). He continues to enhance his knowledge of evidence based practices within the realm of this field while also relying on his foundations in Osteopathic and Allopathic medicine.
Dr. Husaini has always felt a strong pull to the Mitten state and wanted to give back to the community he grew up in and graduated from. His goal has been to expand his services to his hometown of Grand Blanc, Michigan and the surrounding area to bring integrative care to an area he cares deeply for and has helped form the person he is today. In 2022, Dr. Husaini opened a virtual clinic based a couple miles from his childhood home – Michigan Functional and Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Husaini currently resides in Nashville, TN. In his free time, he continues to practice yoga and mindfulness daily while also staying active in adult rec league sports. He is actively involved in the Nashville community, currently serving as a Board of Trustee member with Nashville’s Sexual Assault Center. However, he tries to stay close to his Michigan roots as he has previously served as the President of the Nashville Michigan State Spartans Alumni Group. His family is spread out all over the country, so visiting his young nieces and nephews as much as possible is one of his biggest joys. Frequent trips back to Michigan to spend time with his amazing parents may also be where you’ll find him. The same parents who have supported him along every step of his journey and who he couldn’t be more thankful for.
